Charlotte Chapter Web Master

2013 Chapter President

This October the Charlotte Prime Timers had their largest attendance ever at a monthly meeting/dinner. 60 members and guests [as well as another new member who joined at the meeting] were in attendance at our great meeting venue. Two speakers from Rock Hill for Equality explained their quest to seek equality for gay students on college campuses. These young, straight men have done a fantastic job of starting this organization for gay college students. PTCharlotte continues to break monthly attendance records and we love our meeting space in the Community Center of Park Road Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Charlotte Chapter's Fabulous 20th Anniversary Celebration

April 20th was the Charlotte Chapter's celebration of 20 years as a Chapter of Prime Timers.  We all enjlyed the wonderful program with "Gathering Time"; Dinner; Entertainment; Keynote Address; more Entertainment, Raffle/Prizes, and then an After Party at a great gay bar.  87 guys reserved and sold out the event, titled "A Black Shirt Affair".  The lovely Roxy C Moorecox, the great Keynote from Rob Howard, the "Seventh Son" singers from the Gay Men's Chorus of Charlotte, and the brass quintet of the Charlotte Pride Band, created a wonderful evening that all will remember for years.

From it's first meeting on April 18, 1993, the Chapter has continued to grow and offers several monthly dinner events and several monthly other fun events for Charlotte area gays and their friends.  Check out what we do at www.primetimersww.com/charlotte.  And, others can join us for our Chapter trips, the next being to Ft Lauderdale on May 31.  What a great group of guys we have!!

Who Are Prime Timers?

Prime Timers Worldwide is a social organization that provides older gay and bisexual men and younger men who enjoy associating with older men opportunity to enrich their lives. Our members are men who choose to have their social lives enriched by diverse activities in which our members engage. No single definition can describe Prime Timers as they come from all walks of life. Prime Timers enjoy the opportunities and friendships that develop with other Prime Timers throughout the world.

Prime Timers was founded in 1987 by retired professor Dr. Woodrow (Woody) Baldwin. He felt a gap existed in today's youth oriented society. Woody began the Boston Chapter by placing ads in local newspapers and inviting his friends. He expected only a small handful of men. To Woody's surprise, over forty showed up for the first meeting. Since then, the society has grown to seventy-five chapters in Australia, Canada, and The United States and includes Independent Members worldwide.

Who Are Independent Members?

Independent Members are Prime Timers who do not live near and existing chapter. The Independent Members are offered many of the same benefits enjoyed by Chapter Members. The nucleus of future chapters can be our Independent Members. We encourage our Independent members to consider starting a new chapter when a nucleus is found in a geographic area.

As an Independent Member, you may visit any chapter of Prime Timers and participate in their activities. Our Prime Timer Worldwide newsletter, Prime Times, is distributed every other month electronically to inform you of Independent news, major chapter events, and activities sponsored entirely or in part by Prime Timers. There are numerous opportunities to network with others and many venues to meet and socialize with other Prime Timers. Opportunities include the Annual Labor Day Get Away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Western Regional Gathering in Las Vegas each May; Halloween in Provincetown hosted by the Boston Chapter and other regional events throughout the year. The Prime Timers Worldwide Convention is held each two years to discuss business, attend workshops, and to socialize with friends as well as make new ones. In order, our past conventions were held in Dallas, Texas; Palm Springs, California; Washington, DC; Houston, Texas; Reno, Nevada; Orlando, Florida; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; again in Palm Springs; Columbus, Ohio; Las Vegas, Nevada and October/November, 2017, in Chicago, Illinois. The 2019 Worldwide Convention will be held in October in San Antonio, Texas.

Our organization is emerging as a leading force in the gay and bisexual communities. While we are not a political organization, we are concerned with society as it affects the aging gay and bisexual population. As our organization grows, we will be leading the pack in seeking answers to the needs and problems of maturing gay and bisexual men. It is hoped that soon a Prime Timers chapter will be in every major metropolitan area of the world.
