Prime Timers of Myrtle Beach was started in January 2007 and we are lucky to still have eight members who were members that year. Currently, we have 51 members after we started 2013 with 10 members. How have we added 41 members in three years? Our website. Tom Hammond worked with our chapter to get a website going and continues to spend time on the phone helping us make updates and expand the website as we grow. Because of that web presence, hardly a week goes by without us getting an inquiry about our chapter. These inquiries come from all over the country.

Prime Timers of Myrtle Beach Membership purchased and donated 1,353 packets of Ramen Noodles for the clients of theTransitional Living Program. The Program serves homeless youth in Myrtle Beach. Over half of the homeless youth are LGBTQ. The members were asked to bring in Ramen Noodles for the clients. The President thought he was pushing the limits when he suggested the Members could do 500...they showed him how great they are!

See the photo attached of the Program Youth Counselor and the President with the pickup full of Ramen Noodles. The Counselor was beside herself and said no group had ever done so much for any campaign!

Second Quarter 2014 Update

Prime Timers of Myrtle Beach (PTMB) holds its monthly Business Meeting the first Tuesday of each month at 7 PM, with refreshments afterwards provided by members.  Other regular monthly events include a dinner out at a local restaurant on the second Wednesday, a social gathering on the fourth Wednesday, and weekly cards/games on Tuesdays.

Activities this quarter included dinner at the Horry/Georgetown Technical College Culinary School, Abuelo’s in Myrtle Beach SC, and E Noodles & Co.  In April we had a good turnout for a picnic at Brookgreen Gardens and a tour of the zoo and gardens; in May on a trip to Wilmington NC we had lunch at The Pilot House, a tour of the battleship North Carolina and a visit to the Ivy Cottage for a little antiques shopping; and in June we had Sunday Brunch at Chestnut Hill in Myrtle Beach and a picnic supper at the 82nd Avenue Beach Access.  Cards continue on Tuesday afternoons playing Canasta except on the first Tuesday of the month when we bring our nickels and dimes for some wild and wacky poker fun followed by dinner before attending the Business Meeting.

TEN (10) new members joined during the quarter.  Way to go guys!

The Chapter approved revisions to the bylaws (FINALLY), and operating guidelines are being developed. We continue to seek avenues for outreach and involvement in the LGBTQ community. Plans are being implemented for the Annual Picnic on September 20th at Myrtle Beach State Park.

PTMB was the first PTWW chapter in South Carolina.  We invite anyone in South Carolina or southeastern North Carolina and those traveling in the area to join us for any activity, or contact us and we can meet for a meal or cup of coffee.

Our annual picnic at Myrtle Beach State Park was held on September 7.  Hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings, delicious sides, and various desserts were overindulged in by all.  Corn Hole and Ladder Golf were a challenge for many and fun for all.  Michael B of the Tri-State Prime Timers made PTMB shirts for members.  Thanks Michael.
