Help Is On The Way

Need help in saving a chapter, or revitalizing one that is showing signs of decay and near death? Well, we may just have some ideas for you. Prime Timers Worldwide has just created a brochure that addresses that very problem. Just ask your chapter president or look on the PTWW website under the Membership menu for the document named "Revitalizing and Reinventing an Existing PTWW Chapter". This is an adaption of a similar document created for the Society of Sigma XI (an international scientific research society) which has hundreds of chapters. We have adapted their experience to our own structure and we hope it will assist you in refreshing your chapter or restarting one.

With any organization, there are good times and not so good times. Member participation is the life blood for all of us! When you live in a small, rural state like West Virginia, there are challenges that our clubs in larger, more urban situations do not necessarily encounter. We have to deal with members who may drive 30 miles or more to get to a function. Weather becomes much more of a concern when you have to consider not everyone has a four-lane highway available. Then there are the challenges every PT chapter has: how to schedule activities that will draw in members, how to maintain our relevancy, how to meet the needs of our members.

There's a church near my home that in the spring of 2014 unfurled a rainbow flag on the building. There's also a sign posted nearby that says "God is still speaking".

As I drove by one day, I spotted on the front lawn two quite noticeable rainbow flags. Not long after, I spied an article in the local newspaper, announcing that the First Congregational Church of Bloomfield had become "Open and Affirming".

Inner Peace

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, if you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, if you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it, if you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time, if you can take criticism and blame without resentment, if you can conquer tension without medical help, if you can relax without alcohol, if you can sleep without the aid of drugs, then you are probably the family dog!
