Has your local chapter Board encouraged you to serve Prime Timers in some capacity? Service to Prime Timers can be anything from hosting a Prime Timer event in your home to serving as President of your chapter or even a position on the Prime Timers Worldwide Board. Was your answer, "Yes, I will help?"

In the Beginning

Published in: Click to show all news |

In 2011, I was invited to the Prime Timers gathering in Oklahoma City where several hundred Prime Timers gathered for the "Labor Day Getaway Weekend". I was in awe by the activity. Two swimming pools, two bars, an auditorium where dinners were served, and entertainment was enacted.

Each morning started off with a breakfast buffet at one of the pools. This pool was the gathering place for most of the day. Each evening found a movie at the other pool. A guided tour of Oklahoma City was one of the highlights.

I met Michael Stone who was President of Prime Timers Worldwide. He was very impressive and instrumental in my forming a chapter of Prime Timers in Louisville, Kentucky. I called upon him many times for suggestions, etc. and he was there for me.

After considering there was a chapter in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Nashville, and St. Louis, I made the decision to form a chapter of Prime Timers in Louisville. I felt there was a need for this outlet for all of our lonely seniors, giving them the opportunity to form friendships and participate in activities with others with similar interests in their age group.

We all know deep down inside that growing older can have a very serious downside to it. Once we've lost the ability to care for ourselves, the picture can be bleak. Money problems can greatly affect the care we can afford. When physical conditions limit the ability to participate and interact, the picture grows even darker.

In the Flesh

by Ethan Stone

Christian Flesh is an out-and-proud gay cop who finds himself being framed for murder. He's quite the slut, preferring one night stands and quickies to having any real relationship with anyone. To protect himself in this, he has a set of rules he lives by such as "No kissing". Along comes his new lawyer, Colby, who is a closeted gay man. Christian finds himself slowly breaking rule after rule. At first I didn't really like Christian, he was pretty self centered and pretty much admitted he enjoyed being a slut and was proud of this. As the relationship with Colby begins to get more intense, however, we find Christian slowly thawing out to the point where we start seeing his good side. Because of some past hurts, he has protected himself with his initial persona, but through Colby he begins to learn to trust and how to love. The big problem, however, is that he is the suspect in a murder case that stands between him and Colby's relationship. The other problem they must work to overcome is the fact that Colby is not ready to come out as gay which makes no sense to Christian. This was an enjoyable read. The characters are well developed and the plot held my attention throughout the entire book. I would rate it four out of five stars due to the fact that it took a while to warm-up to Christian.
