Richmond Triangle Players was established in 1992. Back then, Steve J. Earle, Michael Gooding, and Marcus Miller got together to produce a three-night run of one-act plays we called "Safe Sex" based on Harvey Fierstein's trilogy. Harvey gave them special permission to add "Forget Him" which he never allowed anyone else to produce. Thus was born Richmond Triangle Players. RTP is the only theatre company of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region that welcomes a wide audience with a focus on works relevant to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. Their aim is to enlighten all audiences with theatre that warms the heart, educates the mind, and entertains the spirit.

A decade ago, the idea of our own performance venue was just a dream. By sharing that dream, they brought together hundreds of people in our community who believed in our mission and in our message of diversity and inclusion. In a few short years, we have accomplished what many people believed to be impossible and transformed Richmond Triangle Players from a "fringe" theater into one of the best-known and beloved cultural institutions in Central Virginia, on the verge of celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Many Prime Timers Central Virginia members have participated and volunteered over the years to help the theatre succeed. Members also receive a discount on the first Friday night performance of each new show.
