With an abundance of interest groups geared towards its many LGBT populations, "Asheville May Be the Most LGBT-Friendly City in the U.S." (Livability Magazine), LGBT folks are well integrated into the fabric of Asheville. The abundance of specialized groups, including those for dancers, hikers, walkers, LGBT Elders, vegans, supper club participants, book readers, bar-friendly folks, card players, and movie enthusiasts is wonderful. But that also makes establishing a niche for the Asheville Prime Timers somewhat difficult. The overall population of our region is among the smallest in the constellation of Prime Timers chapters, so we are constantly challenged to provide unique educational and social opportunities for our membership.

Our 5th Annual Membership Drive, held in late January, was a great example of our continuing effort to meet that challenge. Hosted at a local church, we invited existing members to a prepaid "all you can eat" Member Appreciation Pasta Dinner. We invited potential new members to join us, advertised in multiple places (even on Growlr!), and were pleased to meet and welcome a number of new faces to the group. The great food we provided was accompanied by an especially entertaining preview of a new theatrical work-in-progress entitled "Pulse" by Asheville's foremost progressive theatre group, Anam Cara (also very gay friendly). Our 5th Annual Membership Drive was an absolute success, and a good time was had by all.
