Several weeks ago, in my article published in Prime Timers World Wide "Personal Stories" I drew attention to the very unpleasant subject of child molestation. I quoted Dr. A. N. Groth, an American clinical psychologist; she had been asked the following question relating to preadolescent children

"Are they at greater risk of molestation from gay men?" Her report, published in 1982 affirmed, "There is no reason to believe so, research indicates no significant relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation. Further, "...the adult male who sexually molests young boys is not likely to be homosexual"

However in the real world, when child molestation (Paedophilia) is suspected or known, then reported to the relevant employer, the religion's hierarchy or whoever, the usual response is,

"If that happened, we'll deal with it ourselves."

That shameful attitude usually results in the shifting of criminal sexual offenders to a different location. Clearly this is in no way a defensible resolution of what is unmistakably child molestation that requires urgent law enforcement investigation and suitable police response.

Recently in Australia, the Federal Government's established a Royal Commission inquiry into child molestation. This has resulted in thousands of complaints that have already uncovered extensive sexual abuse of children within the Victorian Roman Catholic Church; even as the Commission's extensive examination continues its broader investigation into other faiths and organizations across the Nation.
Before proceeding, I need not remind you of past unfounded judgements many heterosexuals have made regarding a gay person's lifestyle. Clearly, their unease leads to suspicion which is generally unfounded.

Regarding Dr. A. N. Groth's reported use of the word "Significant" relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation".

More recently, the current Royal Commission inquiry into child sexual abuse and the recent Canadian announcement of nearly 400 children rescued, plus 348 adults arrested, including many in Australia with more arrests to follow as the child pornography investigation continues.

The word "Significant" does raise serious concerns that ought to encourage Gay Australian organizations to first re-evaluate, then perhaps re-write their Membership Rules, so as to reject any possible internal paedophilic activities, or similar actions by future members, that may lead to suspicion or serious accusations of criminality involving their organization.

In quoting the old saying, "There's no point in shutting the gate after the horse has bolted" I implore gay Clubs to act swiftly.
